India Requires Banks to Let Cardholders Opt in to Contactless Payments

“Card issuers in India are to be required to ship all new cards to customers with contactless functionality switched off by default — and also provide cardholders with a range of easy ways to toggle their card’s contactless support on or off. Reserve Bank of India The new requirement will come into effect from 16 March 2020 and also covers both card not present and international transactions… Text of RBI Notification .”

Deutsche Bank Issues Dynamic CVV Cards in Spain

“Customers of Deutsche Bank in Spain can now apply for a card that replaces the traditional, printed CVV number with a small screen integrated into the back of the card that displays a new CVV every four hours. The dynamic CVV technology used in the cards “makes it possible to increase security, especially when shopping online, as it invalidates cloning or data theft in online transactions and in stores,” according to Mastercard .”

Once a Tool of the Elite, Metal Credit Cards Now Turn Up Everywhere

“Like other luxuries once restricted to the wealthy—cellphones, private airport lounges and French handbags—metal credit cards have trickled down the income stream. Capital One Financial Corp. and other banks have added metal to some of their credit cards with the idea that the hefty feel makes customers feel special and maybe spend more. Customers typically can’t ask their bank to swap out their plastic cards, but at least 20 types of credit cards in the U.S. contain metal, including offerings from JPMorgan Chase & Co., Citigroup Inc., and Wells Fargo & Co.”

Cornèr Banca Issues Biometric Payment Card

“Swiss bank Cornèr Banca has launched a biometric payment card that lets customers make contactless payments without being restricted to the usual CHF40 (US$40) contactless transaction limit. The new Cornèrcard Biometric Gold Visa credit card is being made available as a limited edition of 100 cards and carries a one-time membership fee of CHF300 (US$300) plus an annual fee of CHF190 (US$190) after the first year.”

New NatWest Debit Cards Now Accessible for All Customers

“The new design helps customers easily and quickly identify the correct way a card should be inserted into a cash machine. The flat design also makes it easier to fit into a wallet or purses and helps to increase the lifespan of the card. The larger card lettering helps make it easier for customers to identify in poor lighting. As part of the development of the card design, NatWest has been working closely with the Alzheimer’s Society to make sure the new cards also help customers with dementia. Extra features such as the notch and raised dots, differentiate the card from others and act as a reminder to dementia customers which way around the card should be. Additionally with all customers having the same card any stigma associated with a special card is taken away.”

JCB Pilot of Japan’s First Fingerprint Authentication Chip Card from IDEMIA

“Users first record one or more fingerprints for authentication purposes. When they want to buy something, they need only touch the fingerprint sensor on the card’s lower right corner with their finger so as to authenticate payment.
