Jack Dorsey’s Square Wins Patent for Fiat-to-Crypto Payments Network – CoinDesk

CoinDesk

“This new system could be especially advantageous for the retail sector, according to the filing. Many cryptocurrencies are too volatile and too slow to become an effective payments solution. Few merchants can feasibly accept a payments method that takes hours to process when the value may swing wildly. But Square thinks it can “remove barriers” with a system that features automatic exchange and real-time settlements. Consumers can pay in their preferred asset – using a privacy coin to keep their identities secret, for example – and merchants receive the full value in an asset they want to hold.”

TokenEx Secures Patent for Processor-agnostic Tokenization Gateway

“TokenEx is excited to announce it has been awarded a patent for its innovative, industry-leading Transparent Gateway solution. The Transparent Gateway enables TokenEx customers to share the sensitive data they’ve tokenized, such as a credit card primary account number (PAN), with any third-party payment service providers (PSPs) or other desired endpoints. This functionality maintains the utility of devalued and tokenized data while securely desensitizing it and removing it from an organization’s environment, making the Transparent Gateway a cornerstone of the TokenEx Cloud Security Platform.”

Walmart files patent applications for drone shopping assistants and smart shopping carts

The Verge

“Walmart filed a host of patents today related to how it keeps track of inventory — and the technologies could change the way its customers shop, as reported by Gizmodo. One of the patents is clearly for the in-store experience, and proposes a sensing device to make shopping carts smart and communicate with a mobile device (presumably to help you navigate to where items are). There’s also a patent that tracks users through wearables, and several for managing / sensing inventory levels.”
