US Payments Forum Releases Guidance for Streamlining EMV Certifications at the Fuel Pump

“Testing and certification have been cited as one of the biggest challenges for EMV chip implementation at the automated fuel dispenser (AFD). With the AFD fraud liability shift slated for October 2020, the U.S. Payments Forum has released guidance for streamlining this process and reducing redundancy, implementation time and effort required to achieve certifications for systems using electronic payment servers.”

Noor Bank Partners With UnionPay to Launch QR-based Mobile Payments

“Noor Bank is partnering with payments scheme UnionPay to enable customers to make instant, secure payments on the go. Specifically, Noor Bank is rolling out its first EMVCo QR-based mobile payment service. Consequently, Noor Bank customers and merchants can leverage UnionPay QR code scanning for all their payments. Participating retail, restaurant and tourism-focused merchants will benefit from the cross-border capability of UnionPay QR code payment service. Noor Bank is the largest issuer of UnionPay cards in the UAE. It has over 550,000 cards issued through local financial services group MINT Middle East.”

US Payments Forum Market Snapshot: Updates on EMV Certification Timelines, Chip at the Pump, Contactless Transition and Current Forum Priorities

“Contact EMV chip technology is now well-established in the U.S. – 63% of in-store payment terminals are chip-enabled, and 68% of total transactions today are chip-on-chip. As a result, key aspects of implementation such as testing and certification processes for in-store terminals have stabilized. While merchants are continuing to upgrade existing terminals and/or obtain recertifications, timelines have normalized and those in need of testing better understand how to build the process into their implementation plans.”

“Other data in the report Visa issued Tuesday is for September, and some of it indicates a lull or even slight decline in EMV activity over the summer. In addition to no apparent growth in EMV-accepting merchants, dollar volume on Visa EMV cards declined from $76.7 billion in June to $72.4 billion in September. The September EMV transaction count was 1.7 billion, unchanged from June. Some 98% of Visa’s overall September payment volume was on EMV cards, however.”

NCR Becomes First Provider to Achieve Contactless EMV Certification for its OPTIC Outdoor Payment Solution

NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), a global leader in omni-channel solutions, today announced it has received certification with the largest independent payment processor in the U.S. for EMV contactless payments on its Outdoor Payment Terminal, NCR OPTIC, that is targeted specifically for Convenience and Fuel Retail. EMV contact payments on the NCR OPTIC terminal were certified in 2017. C-Store retailers have until October 2020 to introduce EMV compliant card readers to avoid being held financially responsible for losses through fraud.”

U.S. EMV Merchant Locations Grew by 400,000 in 2018’s First Half, Visa Data Show

“In its latest report on the U.S. conversion from magnetic-stripe payment cards to the EMV standard, Visa on Wednesday said 3.1 million merchant locations accepted the new cards in June. That compares with 2.7 million merchant locations last December and only 392,000 in September 2015, according to an earlier Visa report. Some 67% of U.S. storefronts are now accepting chip cards, Visa says.
