Scanit Announces Launch of Digital Wallet to Improve Contactless Transactions

Scanit , a new technology that can be used to read QR and Direct Response Video (DRV) codes from up to 60 feet away, announced today the launch of its newly created digital wallet. A successful “proof of concept” technology, the digital wallet allows users to complete contactless transactions from distances up to 20 feet away. Utilizing its patented technology in the United States, Japan and pending patent in Europe, Scanit is embedding the company’s exclusive DRV codes in the digital wallets, which can be scanned phone to phone, phone to ATM and phone to point-of-sales terminals. The digital wallets can support transactions with cash, credit or debit cards, and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.”

PayPal launches touch-free payments in-store with iZettle’s point of sale app to support UK businesses post-lockdown

“PayPal today launched QR code payments in iZettle’s point of sale app, allowing small businesses across the UK – from retailers to florists and cafes – to accept safe and secure touch-free payments from customers. The roll-out marks the first time UK merchants can accept PayPal QR Code payments in-store via a point of sale solution. To support the small business community further during the pandemic PayPal QR Code transactions will be available for iZettle merchants at a reduced transaction rate of 1% from now until May 31st 2021[1].”

Payconiq rolls out cross-border QR mobile payments service in Europe

“Users of Payconiq -supported mobile payment apps in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg can now make QR-enabled mobile payments and P2P transfers across all three Benelux countries. The expansion of the cross-border payments service follows the integration of the Luxembourg-based Digicash by Payconiq app into “the first interoperable mobile payment platform in Europe” alongside other Payconiq-enabled payment and banking apps.”

CVS Pharmacy is first national retailer to offer touch-free payments through PayPal and Venmo

“CVS Pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Health (NYSE: CVS), today announced that customers can now check out touch-free using PayPal and Venmo QR codes at 8,200 standalone retail locations. These codes allow customers to securely pay for their items without needing to touch a keypad or sign a receipt, while also being able to access multiple payment methods available in PayPal and Venmo wallets.”

Clover Combines Ordering And Payment With Its QR Code Technology

“Fiserv Inc.’s Clover point-of-sale technology business on Wednesday unveiled Scan to Order, which allows consumers to access a menu and pay for their meal by scanning a QR code at the table or the order window. The application reflects an emerging trend among restaurants to shift interactions between customers and wait staff, particularly ordering and payment, to customers’ mobile devices. Many restaurants have begun placing bar codes at the table that, when scanned, allow access to an online menu. Others enable contactless payment by scanning a bar code on the bill. Now, combining the two functions is a logical next step.”

ExxonMobil to combine NFC and QR mobile payments at the pump

“Drivers refuelling their vehicles at Exxon and Mobil fuel stations across the USA will soon be able to use their mobile phone to make both NFC and QR contactless payments at the pump. ExxonMobil is rolling out its ‘point and pay’ technology to more than 11,500 of its  stations, allowing customers to pay by either tapping their smartphone on a QR code sticker or using the camera to scan the QR code. The contactless payments system supports Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as the company’s own ExxonMobile Rewards+ app.”

QR Codes Reach the Next Stage of Development for Payments: Fraud Detection

“With merchant adoption of contactless payment solutions accelerating due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Incognia, a provider of fraud-detection applications, announced an app Tuesday to detect Quick Response code fraud.  The application uses location behavioral biometrics to create a digital fingerprint for the consumer’s identity. It uses the buyer’s real-time and historical location behavior to protect against the scanning of fake QR codes for payment. The app follows a consumer’s movement on a daily basis, such as between home and the gas station and the local school to validate the user’s location.”

Instagram launches QR codes globally, letting people open a profile from any camera app

“Instagram is bringing QR codes to the app. Users can now generate QR codes that’ll be scannable from any supporting, third-party camera apps. It first launched the product in Japan last year. The idea is that businesses can print their QR code and have customers scan it to open their Instagram account easily. From there, people can see store hours, buy items, or just follow the account.”

Beijing clamps down on QR code mobile payments at gas stations despite a negligible chance of an explosion

“An experiment carried out by experts revealed that when scanning QR codes, a smartphone emits stronger electromagnetic radiation than during phone calls, according to a social media post from China’s Fire and Rescue Department. The experts concluded that QR code scanning is potentially dangerous at gas stations. While static electricity can ignite petrol vapours, there is scant evidence that phone-induced explosions are likely to occur near gas pumps.”

PayPal and Venmo QR Code checkout is coming to 8,200 CVS stores in Q4

TechCrunch

PayPal has struck a deal with CVS Pharmacy to offer the ability to check out using PayPal’s payment services, including both PayPal and Venmo, at the register. The company announced this morning CVS will become the first nationwide retailer to allow customers to pay using either their PayPal or Venmo QR code at the register, without fees. The payment will pull from funds available in the customer’s existing account balance, bank account or from their debit or credit card, just as it would online. Venmo users will additionally have the option to pay with their Venmo Rewards.”

JCB Enables Cross-Border QR-Code Payments With FIS

“FIS, a global leader in financial services technology, today announced that an international payment scheme, JCB, has selected FIS’ Payments One switching and acquiring services to enable cross-border QR-code payments. As consumers seek greater speed and convenience in their payment transactions, merchants are increasingly adopting QR codes and other digital payment types. “The Department of Transportation said Friday it tapped GCash to help equip taxis with scan-to-pay systems, as part of a pandemic normal that requires cashless payments. The joint venture of Jack Ma’s Alipay and Globe Telecom’s Mynt allows users to scan merchants QR codes and deduct the amount due from their mobile wallet. Digital payments will limit direct physical contact between drivers and passengers thus reducing the chance of spreading COVID-19, the Department of Transportation said.”
