Eye on ATMs: Visa Will Lift Dynamic Currency Conversion Restriction at ATMs, Euronet Says; New PAI Leadership

“In what may be a boon for ATMs, Visa Inc. will allow dynamic currency conversion for consumers using international ATMs beginning April 13, 2019, says Euronet Worldwide Inc. The Leawood, Kan.-based processor, which operates more than 41,000 ATMs globally, says the rule change enables acquirers and ATM operators to offer the conversion service, which can convert the ATM’s native currency into the cardholder’s currency, on “all international ATM transactions on Visa-branded cards around the world.” Visa notified operators on Sept. 27, Euronet says.”

“Xoom, PayPal’s international money transfer service, today announced a partnership with TransNetwork, an electronic payment processing platform, so Xoom customers in the United States can send money to loved ones for cash pickup at any OXXO location in Mexico. The first online-only remittance player to partner with Mexico’s largest chain of convenience stores, Xoom will add more than 17,000 cash pickup locations with this partnership, providing customers more convenience than ever as recipients can now choose from over 35,000 locations in the country.”

“FNB has launched a mini-ATM that uses biometrics as a means of consumer validation, a move the bank believes is a first for South Africa. The TouchPoint device functions as a self-service kiosk from which customers can conduct transactional banking such as withdrawals, transfers and payments, view statements, purchase airtime and electricity and perform card cancellations. It can also be usesd to open new accounts.”
