IDEX Biometrics Launches Its First Biometric Payment Card in Turkey

“IDEX Biometrics has launched its first biometric payment cards in Turkey in collaboration with an unnamed issuer. These cards are expected to be in consumer hands by Q1 2023. This move comes shortly after IDEX announced a partnership with card manufacturer E-Kart. It claims Turkey is one of the largest payment card markets, with 240 million cards in circulation and 1.8 million acceptance locations. IDEX develops fingerprint identification technologies that offer simple, secure and personal authentication. It claims to help people easily complete payments that are secured against their identity.”

Bitcoin Tumbles After Turkey Bans Crypto Payments Citing Risks

“Bitcoin tumbled more than 4% on Friday after Turkey’s central bank banned the use of cryptocurrencies and crypto assets for purchases citing possible “irreparable” damage and transaction risks. In legislation published in the Official Gazette, the central bank said cryptocurrencies and other such digital assets based on distributed ledger technology could not be used, directly or indirectly, to pay for goods and services.”

“Installed at a music and bookstore in Istanbul, the system requires a shopper to use a POS device to scan the barcodes on items they are buying. A QR code then appears on the POS screen, which the shopper scans with the BKM Express app on their phone before getting a notification of the transaction.”
