“Most people who receive a gift card are quick to put it to use: More than 70% of all gift cards are redeemed within 6 months of purchase, according to one survey. But after that first 180 days, the rate of use tends to stagnate. At the one year mark, just under 80% of cards are redeemed — and as time passes, they are less and less likely to see the light of day. At any given time, 10% to 19% of gift card balances remain unredeemed — and around 6% of gift cards are never even used.”

Dollar Car Rental Modifies Prepaid Card Policies
“Rentals booked more than 24 hours in advance will only require a debit card and driver’s license. Rentals booked less than 24 hours in advance, or rentals for Convertibles, Luxury and Premium vehicles, can still use a debit card but require two forms of identification and proof of return travel plans. The policy will also reduce the incidental hold amount from $350 to $200, plus the cost of the rental, for both debit card and credit card rentals. Dollar accepts all non-prepaid debit cards backed by Visa, Mastercard and Discover.”

Government Releases Report on Campus Prepaid Card and Deposit-Account Fees

The release came only after former CFPB officials tipped off journalists and consumer groups of its existence, resulting in demands under the Freedom of Information Act for its release, according to U.S. PIRG, the Washington, D.C.-based federation of state public-interest research groups.”
