"Smaller UPI apps urge the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to rethink the launch of the UPI Meta protocol, warning it could inadvertently entrench the dominance of PhonePe and Google Pay. NPCI runs UPI, the country’s most popular digital payments platform. The industry representation follows NPCI's push to roll out UPI Meta, a tokenisation layer, under which users can save their preferred UPI app on merchant platforms such as Amazon, Blinkit or Swiggy and authenticate payments using their UPI PIN or biometrics."
