PayPal Reduces Its Promotional Financing Threshold To Boost Its Credit Service

“The warmth of late summer still bathes much of the country, but PayPal Holdings Inc. already has its eyes on the upcoming holiday spending season. The online commerce leader today unveiled a zero-interest financing promotion for its PayPal Credit service with a lowered purchase threshold. In addition to charging no annual percentage rate for three months, the promotion applies to purchases as low as $30. “Prior to this enhancement, $99 was the lowest amount available for 0% APR,” a PayPal spokesperson tells Digital Transactions News by email.”

The retailer joins Uber and Uber Eats to become the latest merchant to offer 3% Daily Cash to Apple Card customers who use Apple Pay at checkout. This includes purchases made in both Walgreens and Duane Reade retail stores, as well as on the web at walgreens.com and in the Walgreens mobile app.”

Iceland Uses Mobile Wallet-based Discount Vouchers to Boost Footfall, Sales and Basket Value

“The promotion has driven nearly £500,000 (US$635,117) of in-store sales and increased the average basket value by 5% compared with traditional paper vouchers. The firm partnered with UK start-up The Mobile Wallet Company to issue print-based coupons in national newspapers that customers added to their mobile wallets by using either a QR code or a link. By linking the vouchers to a mobile device, the retailer was able to measure and track redemption values from a number of different voucher placements to the point of sale.”

Lyft Wants to Give Free Bank Accounts and Debit Cards to Drivers

“To be clear, “increase driver pay” doesn’t mean increasing fares, but rather a Lyft-branded debit card with 4 percent cash back on restaurant purchases, 2 percent on gas, and 1 percent on groceries. Drivers can also “instantly access their earnings” through an “online bank account designed for their needs.” There will be no monthly fees and no minimum account balances or maintenance fees. Lyft is working with Oklahoma-based Stride Bank on this program.”

“Google has issued its first voice-activated coupon, a $15 offer for Target orders placed on shopping service Google Express via Google Assistant. Google said it did not have anything to share beyond the information available on its Google Express help page, but a Google spokesperson said in an email that “Google Express customers can complete purchases hands-free through the Google Assistant, and to raise awareness for this feature, we were running a pilot with Target to help educate customers about this capability.””
