Shopify launches Shop, a new mobile shopping app

“While Shopify is best-known for powering the online stores of more than 1 million businesses, the company is launching a consumer shopping app of its own today, simply called Shop. The app is actually an update and rebrand of Arrive, an app for tracking packages for Shopify merchants and other retailers, which the company says has been used by 16 million consumers already. Shop includes those same package tracking capabilities, but it also allows consumers to browse a feed of recommended products, learn more about each brand and make purchases using the one-click Shop Pay checkout process.”

Facebook, Three Indonesian Firms in Early Talks for Mobile Payment Approval

“Three Indonesian digital fintech firms are working with Facebook Inc to apply for regulatory approval to launch mobile payments in the country, an official at the financial regulator said. The plan, if approved, could be among the first such service under the social media firm’s unified payment service Facebook Pay it unveiled in November, through which users across its various platforms including WhatsApp and Instagram can make payments without exiting the app.”

OEM Pay Transaction Volumes to Exceed $1tn a Year by 2024

China mobile payments maintain rapid growth in Q3

“China’s mobile payments continued fast growth in the third quarter of 2019, showed data from the central bank. Banks in the country processed 27.27 billion mobile payment transactions in the period, up 61.05 percent year on year, said the People’s Bank of China in a report. Value of these transactions increased by 31.52 percent from the same period of last year to 86.11 trillion yuan (about 12.2 trillion U.S. dollars). Meanwhile, online payment transactions by the non-banking institutions were valued at 63.99 trillion yuan in Q3, up 23.04 percent year on year.”

A growing number of stores are also allowing customers to pay using the money transfer app, and it will soon become possible to use it to pay for purchases outside Sweden, the company said on Tuesday.
