Government Likely to Introduce Electronic Invoice System Under GST

The Economic Times

“The government is looking to introduce an electronic invoice mechanism under GST, but could restrict it to large companies in the initial phase, said a government official privy to the deliberations on the matter. This will automatically register every transaction on the GST network. “It is being examined … We are looking at if bigger companies could be brought in to begin with,” said the official.”

Asto, the Bookkeeping App From Santander, Adds Invoice Financing for Freelancers and SMEs

TechCrunch

Asto , the Santander owned “upstart” developing financial tools for freelancers and SMEs, is adding invoice financing to its bookkeeping app. The new offering, which potentially opens up so-called “micro-financing” to a much broader business market, comes hot on the heels of Santander Group acquiring Albert, an invoicing and expenses app for freelancers and micro-businesses. Albert’s functionality has now been integrated into Asto, with Albert co-founder Ivo Weevers becoming Asto’s Chief Product and Design Officer.”

Square’s Invoices Service Now Has Its Own Standalone Mobile App

VentureBeat

Square is perhaps best known for its app that allows merchants to easily accept in-store card payments through a mobile device, but the San Francisco-based company has been chasing a bigger piece of the small business pie through a bunch of related services.

One of those is Square Invoices, which launched back in 2014 to help merchants send customized bills and collect payment from their customers. Square Invoices doesn’t come with any monthly fees, but the company does, of course, make money on payments it processes, with support for one-time billing or recurring payments.

Netflix permanently pulls iTunes billing for new users

Venture Beat

“Netflix is further distancing itself from Apple’s iTunes tax bracket. Earlier this year, the streaming giant enabled iOS users in more than two dozen markets to bypass the iTunes payment method as part of an experiment. The company now tells VentureBeat that it has concluded the experiment and has incorporated the change globally. “We no longer support iTunes as a method of payment for new members,” a Netflix spokesperson told VentureBeat. Existing members, however, can continue to use iTunes as a method of payment, the spokesperson added.”

TechCrunch

“Microsoft Pay — Microsoft’s answer to Android Pay and Apple Pay that was originally launched in 2016 as Microsoft Wallet — is getting a little more useful today. At Build, Microsoft announced that it will be integrating its digital wallet service into Outlook. This means that, for the first time, when a company sends you an invoice in an email, and you are using Outlook to read it, you can pay that bill directly, without needing to leave Outlook and open a different app or service.”

Stripe launches a new billing tool to tap demand from online businesses

TechCrunch

Stripe  has made its name by providing developers with a simpler way to start charging customers and handling transactions, but today they hope to take another step by launching a billing product for online businesses. That’ll allow them to handle subscription recurring revenue, as well as invoicing, within the Stripe platform and get everything all in the same place. The goal was to replace a previously hand-built setup, whether using analog methods for invoicing or painstakingly putting together a set of subscription tools, and make that experience as seamless as charging for products on Stripe.”
