Congratulations to the 2010 FWASF Scholarship Recipients!

June 2, 2010

Today the Financial Women’s Association of San Francisco (FWASF) hosted its annual Scholarship Luncheon. Two undergraduates and six graduate students from six Bay Area schools received a total of $70,000 in scholarships. I am on the FWA board and have been involved in the scholarship program for many years — and each year I am amazed by the caliber of the candidates. We have to make tough decisions to select the honorees. And each year at the luncheon when the scholarship recipients share their stories and ambitions I am touched, inspired, and reminded of how important it is to foster and encourage the success of younger people (not just younger women).  But enough about me, here’s a list of this year’s FWA scholarship recipients:

Undergraduates

  • Somachi Chris-Asoluka, Saint Mary’s College
  • JiangPing (Monica) Peng, Cal State East Bay

Graduates

  • Tamiko Blake, Mills College
  • Kathy Chang, Stanford Graduate School of Business
  • Janine Elliott, Dominican University of California
  • Elaine Kan, Stanford University
  • Vivien Yiting Lai, UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business
  • Wendy Walker, UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business

Congratulations!

About the FWASF Scholarship Fund

Annually, the FWASF Scholarship Fund awards a select number of scholarships to women undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a career in finance or financial services at an accredited college or university in the nine Bay Area counties. Since 1985, the Fund has awarded over $1,500,000 in scholarship grants to more than 180 Bay Area women.

Save the Date!

If you are in the Bay Area, mark your calendar for the FWA’s 15th Annual Luncheon honoring the 2010 Financial Woman of the Year Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann, President of Ciitbank California. This year’s Luncheon will take place Thursday, September 30th at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. The purpose of this event is three-fold; to raise awareness about the successes of women in finance, to honor an outstanding financial leader in the Bay Area, and to generate funds for the FWA scholarship program.
