Situation
An NGO developed a multi-year initiative working to support the development of inclusive, instant payments systems to bring low-income end users into the formal financial services ecosystem.
The institution works in coordination with a wide variety of constituents and stakeholders to address national and regional payments infrastructure gaps. Glenbrook was asked to provide ongoing strategic, thought leadership, and implementation support.
Approach
Glenbrook continues to support of this NGO’s programs and goals. Key efforts to date include:
- Drafted an external-facing strategy advocacy document that serves as the primary reference material for grantee, partner, and government engagement.
- Developed thought leadership pieces and best practices on driving financial inclusion in payment systems. Topics included scheme governance, clearing, settlement, and QR codes, among others.
- Continual benchmarking of global developments to help evolve strategic guidance.
- Supported on-the-ground implementations of inclusive instant payments systems in multiple countries and regions. Work included facilitating workshops, drafting system rulebooks, creating business cases and business models, and advising on design and go-to-market approaches.
Impact
Glenbrook has been one of many contributors working to enhance financial inclusion globally. Over the course of our efforts, financial inclusion has increased by approximately 500 million end users. There is still work to be done, but we are proud of our unique contribution to this enormous effort.
