“Toast Inc. is planning an initial public offering that could value the restaurant-software provider at around $20 billion, people familiar with the matter said. Toast tapped Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. to underwrite a possible listing later this year, these people said. It could also consider other options including a sale or combination with a blank-check company, some of the people said. There are no guarantees Toast will ultimately go public or pursue another of the options.”

Clover Combines Ordering And Payment With Its QR Code Technology

“Fiserv Inc.’s Clover point-of-sale technology business on Wednesday unveiled Scan to Order, which allows consumers to access a menu and pay for their meal by scanning a QR code at the table or the order window. The application reflects an emerging trend among restaurants to shift interactions between customers and wait staff, particularly ordering and payment, to customers’ mobile devices. Many restaurants have begun placing bar codes at the table that, when scanned, allow access to an online menu. Others enable contactless payment by scanning a bar code on the bill. JPMorgan Chase takes on Square and PayPal with smartphone card reader, faster deposits for merchants


JPMorgan Chase is making a play to sell more services to millions of American small business owners, pushing into an area pioneered by fintech firms including Square , PayPal and First Data , CNBC has learned. The bank is rolling out a checking account that is paired with a new fintech-inspired service called QuickAccept, according to JPMorgan executives. QuickAccept lets merchants take card payments within minutes, either through a mobile app or a contactless card reader, and users will see sales hit their Chase business accounts on the same day .”

COVID-19 Is Changing Consumer Behavior At The Point-Of-Sale


“…These developments, paired with growing concerns about physical contact and contagions, have helped drive a noticeable decline in cash utilization, according to a Q3 2020 US consumer survey fielded by 451 Research, which is part of S&P Global Market Intelligence. The survey revealed that more than two in five consumers are using cash less often since the COVID-19 outbreak started. The decline is strongest for respondents with a household income above $150,000 and those belonging to Gen X (38-53 years old), where 64% and 54% have decreased their usage, respectively.”
