The promise of a global payment system with modern clearing and settlement is on the horizon. What does that mean for the consumers, businesses and the payments industry at large? The combination of Fast (or Instant) Payment Systems and a global focus by central banks to improve cross-border payments is giving rise to new regional payment systems. This workshop reviews the fundamentals of cross-border payments and correspondent banking and the current state of domestic fast payment systems. We then review initiatives to link these domestic systems together to create new regional cross-border networks.
